Begur Lake

Begur Lake, Historic but highly polluted water body in southern Bangalore, once upon a time this lake is a source of clean drinking water for the surrounding villages, but now it is filled with sewage and garbage from the nearby buildings. since the time of Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated a project to restore the lake by removing mud and waste material from the lake. the contract for the development work has been allocated to Arun Kumar and the company. The lake has two compartments and an outlet. Wastewater drain is being worked to reroute the sewage water entering the lake from Nice Road, Begur and the encompassing zones. A joggers' way will come up around the lake. A sewage treatment plant of 50 lakh liters will be introduced to treat water entering the close-by Chikkabegur lake. two small islands will be created in the middle of the lake for birds and for the natural purification of rainwater, a swampy area will be created and plants that can act as purifiers will be grown here. and a wire fence will be arranged around the lake.
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike has approved to install one of the tallest statues of Lord shiva on the Begur lake. this statue will be similar to shiv smark off the Mumbai coast. When the restoration is finished, the Shiva statue will be introduced at the focal point of the lake." Engineers said the lake will include three islands."Two of them will be left for winged animals with loads of natural product bearing trees. The other island will have the standing statue of Shiva and a wharf. We're sourcing the 20-feet tall statue.
April 6th, Begur lake Became the center of attraction, because of a 1,000 years old stone idol pulled out of the depth of the muddy lake, the idol is belonging to the era of the Ganga Dynasty which ruled the region from 350 AD to 1000 AD. That the idol has a place with the Ganga period was affirmed by Dr. SK Aruni, Deputy Executive, Southern regional center of Indian Council of Historical Research. He visited Begur to keep an eye on the icon and affirmed that it was the idol of Gangamma Devi having a place with the Ganga time frame. However later the Archaeological department was informed and when they checked, they said they would move it however it was not moved.
