National Gallery for Modern Art

The National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru was set up in the premises of the Manikyavelu Mansion at 49 Palace Road, Bangalore and opened to the general population on eighteenth February 2009. It Spread over a region of 3.5 sections of land, the thoughtful legacy building changed from a living arrangement into an Art Gallery, with a showcase space of 1551 square meters to which another exhibition hinder with a presentation space of 1260 sq. m. was included. The model of the extra square planed so that it converges with the style and vibe of the legacy Manikyavelu Mansion while in the meantime satisfying the necessities of a cutting edge exhibition hall.

History of National Gallery for Modern Art

The National Gallery for Modern Art (NGMA), Bangalore was inaugurated in 2009 by the Government of India to promote and preserve modern Indian art. The museum is located in the historic Manikyavelu Mansion, a colonial-era building that once belonged to Raja Manikyavelu Mudaliar.
The mansion was restored and converted into an art museum by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The gallery houses artworks created from the 18th century to contemporary times, showcasing the evolution of Indian modern art.
Today, the museum is part of the National Gallery for Modern Art network, which also includes galleries in New Delhi and Mumbai.
